L.B. Mckay is a professional artist specializing in painting and photography. She graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso in 2009. She obtained her Bachelors in Fine Arts in Painting. Mckay decided from the beginning of her professional artistic career that she wanted to use artistic photography with female models as a departing point for her paintings. As her painting techniques and photography skills got better she endeavored to take on more challenging projects. She wanted to identify herself with her own culture. Therefore, she decided to create projects that would represent her in that vein of thought.
As a professional artist, her main objective is to be creative and professional. She furthermore plans to continually engage the public with original, diverse, and excellent work that will be a lifetime learning experience. She feels that the best way to present her art is through cultural, educational, and historical venues.
McKay’s art incorporates Baroque and Classical features as well as a style that she describes as Feminist Art. Much of her work is contemporary figurative as well as emotional and representational. Mckay employs the painting technique of Indirect Painting. Indirect Painting is when the artist builds multiple layers of paint to achieve some desired visual effects. She also experiments with an impasto technique in which she uses a rich palette. Her influences are Michelangelo Merisida Caravaggio, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Joel-Peter Witkins, the Romanticism of Eugene Delacroix and the mystique of Impressionist Raoul Dufy and contemporary artist Ray Donley.
Mckay has won a jurors award at The Arts International. She has had solo exhibitions at the El Paso city Hall in December of 2011. and at Chamizal in 2011. She has participated in numerous other venues including a solo exhibition at UTEP’s Glass Gallery. She has had been featured as ‘Artist of the Month’ at Artslant.com, an artist website in New York and also at Convictedartist.com, a sports and art website in California. She also has shown at Arts International, La Galleria del Senecu, Sunland Park Gallery, and Hospice Celebrity Waiters Exhibition at Biggs Army Airfield Dinner just to name a few. Some of her work has been displayed in the El Paso Times, the KFOX TV website, the UTEP Prospector and on the internet in California, New York and Tennessee.
